Living with a senior pet - The Blogging Dog

We all age. We all will lose agility and ability, and find ourselves needing assistance and companionship in our senior years. For a canine, the length of a healthy life can vary depending on the size and breed. Ten years is a good base-line to start preparing for senior care. Remember your dog will need a stable and consistent environment to minimize complications with age. Also, remembering that the impact of age can come quickly for a dog can help you to minimize or deal with issues.

Issues like diabetes are more common than they used to be, and to halt the effects of something like that - you will need to be aware of common things that indicate change in your dogs daily routine. You see, if you can keep your side stable - feed the same amounts, know how much water is consumed in a day, how often they sleep, how active they are, etc........then you can see the issues before they grow too large to intercept - like loss of vision or mobility. These are the indicators you must keep track of as the owner of a senior pet to insure they are healthy and happy. You have to notice when they are eating more or less, drinking more or less, resting more or less.....these are how you help keep them comfortable and happy with you in those twilight years.
